Cherry Cake

30/11/19

Well I had a fun cinema outing with my friend Becksy and we saw: Last Christmas

This film is set this year in 2019.

It's about Kate (played by Emilia Clarke) who is stuck in a dead end job as an elf in a Christmas shop that sells Christmas gifts and ornaments all year round, she calls her boss by her nickname Santa because she loves Christmas, which is why she runs a Christmas shop all year round. I bet working in a Christmas shop gets boring after a few months. And also she's homeless because she gets kicked out of her friends flat. But one day whilst at work she meets a man called Tom (played by Henry Golding), she's attracted to him but finds him disconcerting. during the film Kate expressed her desire to become a singer and auditions for a musical but was unsuccessful. She ends up running into Tom again and they have a nice stroll and he charms her and me with his whimsical observations around London. Throughout the course of the film we learnt that Kate had made some rather bad choices in her life and left the thoughtful and kind person she used to be behind.

Kate's mother Petra (played by Emma Thompson) suffers from depression and is constantly worried about her daughter Kate. My mum should know that feeling because every time my mum and I go out she worries over my road safety because due to my autism I have no sense of danger, Kate's father Ivan, a former lawyer but now works long hours as a minicab driver he can't afford to retrain to practise in the UK. Kate resents her mother because she mainly dotes on her younger daughter Marta, a successful lawyer. As Kate and Tom spend time together she slowly starts to change back to who she was before. And whilst searching for Tom because he keep s disappearing for days at a time, she begins helping at the homeless shelter in hopes of meeting him again but it seemed that the staff there have no knowledge of him ever working there nor his existence.

Whilst celebrating her sister's promotion Kate revealed to her parents that Marta has a girlfriend. Upset by the scene she cause Kate runs into Tom again and he takes her back to his apartment where we learn that Kate was seriously ill earlier this year and had to have a heart transplant. With the care she was given her mother was happy for a time but Kate feels half dead and began questioning herself whether her talent would help her make it as a performer. After spending the night with Tom, Kate finally started taking small steps with her life, taking care of her body, setting up her boss with a customer who loves Christmas as much as she does, apologising to Marta and her girlfriend, singing Christmas songs to busk money for the homeless shelter. After running into Tom after a few days he shuts down the idea of being in a relationship with Kate and she walks away believing that he doesn't truly love her. But nevertheless Kate continues to do good in her life.

Wanting to make amends with Tom she returns to his apartment but only to find an estate agent viewing the apartment and he revealed that Tom was ran over by a lorry and the place has been empty during the probate process. And then Kate realised that Tom was an organ donor and it's his heart that's inside her and all of the interactions she had with him was all herself and imagined Tom was with her. When Kate encountered Tom again she promised to look after his heart as he is now part of her and she is now part of him as his heart now belongs to her. To me that made think that Tom is actually Kate's guardian angel, only trying and successfully helping and guiding her to good health and life.

For Christmas Kate organised a show utilising the talents of the people at the shelter and inviting all of her friends, new and old, including her entire family. Kate dedicated the song Last Christmas to Tom. By the end of the film Kate is happier, healthier, smiling and joyful.

This film is heartwarming and carries a message of what Christmas is about; being there for those in need.

Sorry for the lateness again. It's because of me being on my time of the month, going to Casa Peri Peri and the stress of buying Christmas presents for friends. Thank goodness there's only two people
