For today's All Things Food zoom event I've demonstrated on how to make a traditional Christmas cookie called Snickerdoodles. My big sister Charlotte used to make them every now and again before she moved out. I love the smell of cinnamon wafting in the air when they're in oven.
Snickerdoodle cookies
Ingredients:
60g Olive Spread
160g Caster Sugar
1 egg
240g Plain Flour
¾ tsp. cream of tartar
Pinch of salt
¼ tsp. Ground Cinnamon
For The Coating:
1 ¼ tbsp. caster sugar
1 tbsp. ground cinnamon
Equipment:
Mixing bowl
Large glass bowl
Small glass bowl
Whisk
Spatula
Plastic bowl cover
Spoon
Plastic 10ml measuring spoon
Baking trays & liner
Method:
Get out ingredients
Get out equipment for base
Turn on the oven to 160 degrees
Wash hands
1. Weigh flour into large glass bowl.
2. Measure cream of tartar.
3. Add cream of tartar into the large glass bowl.
4. Measure bicarbonate of soda.
5. Add the bicarbonate of soda into the large glass bowl.
6. Add a pinch of salt into the large glass bowl.
7. Measure the ground cinnamon.
8. Add the ground cinnamon into the large glass bowl.
9. Weigh the olive spread into the bowl.
10. Weight the sugar.
11. Add the sugar into the mixing bowl.
12. Crack the egg into the mixing bowl.
13. Set the timer for 1 minuet.
14. Mix the olive spread, sugar and egg together.
15. When the timer makes a noise…
16. Scrap the sides of the bowl with a spatula.
17. Add half of the flour mixture into the mixing bowl.
18. Set the timer for 1 minuet.
19. Whisk together.
20. When the timer makes a noise…
21. Add the rest of the flour and use the spoon of your hands to mix to form a smooth ball of dough.
22. Cover the bowl with the bowl cover and put it in the fridge.
23. Set the timer for 40mins.
24. Turn on the oven the 160 degrees. If using a fan oven turn the fan oven to 150 degrees.
25. Add the caster sugar into the small glass bowl.
26. Add the ground cinnamon into the small glass bowl.
27. Mix the sugar and cinnamon together.
28. When the timer makes a noise…
29. Take the dough out of the fridge.
30. Using the plastic measuring spoon break off balls of dough.
31. Roll the dough ball in the topping to completely coat the dough.
32. Put 6 dough balls per baking tray evenly spaced.
33. Bake in the oven for 10-13 minuets until light and golden.
34. Cool on a cooling rack.
